Beyond Admissions – College Life

Beyond Admissions – College Life

Once you have followed the information available from this website, applied for college, and moved beyond college admissions – college life itself is a great adventure and will present its own rewards and challenges. You will find new friends, new interests, and new activities. You will discover what parts of “real life” you excel at (and the ones that you’d rather avoid, like laundry). You will face your fears and develop experience that will carry you through into the working world. You will do all of this while maintaining both a rigorous academic schedule and a rigorous social schedule.

Beyond Admissions – College Rewards

One of the most rewarding parts of college life (beyond the academic benefits of course), is the opportunity to live on your own. While this concept might seem a little intimidating at first, it will likely soon become second nature. It is an empowering feeling to set your own schedule and your own priorities. College will also benefit you by providing an entirely new and vast pool of potential friends. You will find common ground with people all around you, and you will disagree passionately with some of the people around you. The time you spend in college will an interesting mix of new experiences and the beginnings of adult responsibility. And there will be no shortage of things to do and activities to participate in. You will be busy.

Beyond Admissions – College Challenges

That’s not to say that college doesn’t present challenges as well. Setting your own schedule sometimes means finding time to study, write papers, socialize, pursue your hobbies, watch some television, and still wake up in time for your 7:00am class. Learning to deal with a huge variety of people from many different backgrounds can be stressful at the same time it is rewarding. Some people find the jump to college life and the responsibility that goes with it overwhelming at first (especially when it comes time to cook their own meals or do a few months worth of laundry). Don’t worry though, the adjustment phase comes and goes very quickly. Soon you will be facing all of the new challenges that college can throw at you and turning each and every one of them into opportunities. Good luck, and have fun!
