Leadership and the model of success in the 21st century

Post By: Michelle Cho

Happy Friday! Every now and then, I like to stray away from the typical college admissions talk and introduce you to videos, essays or books that I believe are important to your success. Like I’ve said many times before, our goal is not just to help you get into college but to help you get into the college of your dreams. The college of your dreams is a college that will contribute to achieving your goals, hopes, and aspirations for the rest of your life. We believe college is not the end goal but a part of a bigger picture: success. That is why we at College Of Your Dreams not only focus on strategies on how to get into college, choose the right college and pay for college, but we also like to go beyond that. We want our students to not just get into the college of their dreams but also to one day achieve their dreams.

Today I wanted to share an inspirational TED talk titled “Measuring what makes life worthwhile” by hotelier Chip Conley. In the video, he talks about leadership and the model of success in the 21st century. After the dot com bubble burst, Conley went out in search for a new model of success, one based on happiness. After adopting this new model of success, his company not only survived one of the worst recessions in the nation’s history but it tripled in size during that time.

Enjoy and let me know your thoughts! – Michelle

Great quotes in this talk:

“Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted.”- Albert Einstein

“GDP measures everything, in short, except what that which makes life worthwhile.” – Robert Kennedy

“Happiness is not having what you want. It is about wanting what you have.”
